For centuries, the Danube was Budapest's main thoroughfare. Where there is a port, there is also a market – and so this area became one of Budapest's oldest marketplaces. On February 15, 1897, the grandiose Market Hall (a 28-meter-high steel structure with a 150-meter-long main hall) opened with nearly 1,800 stalls. Our grandparents still thought this way—buying fresh, seasonal ingredients from the local market, from known producers. This is the "market to table" principle, which is not just a catchy marketing slogan, but a revival of tradition.
Market 1897 by Borbíróság continues this tradition: our chefs select seasonal ingredients from the local market and well-known producers. When you sit down in our restaurant, you experience the same story that generations of Budapest residents have experienced for generations: the taste of the fresh market on your table.

Our dinner at Market 1897 restaurant was an excellent experience in every respect. The food was fantastic, with refined flavors and sophisticated presentation, and the interior was elegant and cozy.
We would like to give special mention to András and Márton, our waiters, who were extremely kind, attentive, and professional. We were celebrating our 6th anniversary, and thanks to their attentiveness, they made the evening truly special and memorable for us.

I was completely blown away by the experience! The food was fantastic—every flavor and texture was perfectly balanced, and every ingredient contributed to the overall picture. Our waiter, András Tornyosi, provided exceptional service. His thoughtful recommendation convinced me to try a different dish than I had originally planned, and I am so glad I did – it was incredibly delicious! He also suggested the perfect wine pairing.
The atmosphere was great, and as more and more guests arrived, the music was turned down so that it was easy to have a quiet conversation. Everything was perfect, from the flavors to the presentation. I highly recommend it!

This was the finest meal of my entire trip to Europe. The duck breast was absolutely flawless—far superior to anything I had eaten in Taiwan. But the real highlight was the gentleman pictured here. His service was courteous and attentive. Despite my limited English, he never showed the slightest neglect or prejudice. Instead, he took special care to explain everything to us and actively used translation tools to ensure we enjoyed our meal. He even offered us a bottle of beer. When I couldn't decide what to choose from the menu, I asked him to order for me. The dishes he chose were absolutely delightful. I am deeply grateful for the warmth of Europeans. I am very happy to have met him in Budapest. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. 👍 ❤️

Our event rooms can also be used for completely private events, for groups of 25-30 people on average, families, and wedding celebrations.
